Energy efficiency and the holiday season don’t seem to be a match made in heaven.
Can you increase your energy efficiency during Christmas vacation? When it comes to your heating system, you really can save money. There are two easy ways to do so:
#1: Change Your Air Filter
Your air filter is the first stop for dust, dirt, debris, and other airborne particles before they hit the heating system. The filter stops them before they can make their way into the equipment and damage it. If the filter is dirty or clogged, it’s harder to pull the air through, making your heating system work harder than it needs to. By keeping your air filter clean, you can help make your system work more efficiently, even over Christmas break.
#2: Invest in a Smart Thermostat
Many people travel over the holidays, but that doesn't mean you need to leave your heat working overtime. Program your smart thermostat before you leave town so your heating system can take a break, too.
By programming your thermostat to fit your travel schedule, you can lower the temperature while you're away. This will save energy and money on your heating bill.
Not only that, you can make any adjustments via a Wi-Fi connection remotely from wherever you are. Coming home early? Turn the heat back up before you arrive. Staying longer? Reset the programming to adjust to more days at a lower temperature. Unforeseen weather changes? You can adjust for that too, and you don't even have to be home to do it.
Christmas can cost a bundle, but that doesn't have to apply to your energy bill. For more info on increasing your energy efficiency, contact our team at Helms Heating and Air Conditioning.
