Maintenance agreements aren’t just fluff provided by your HVAC company to get you to spend more money. They’re important to keep your system running smoothly and effectively. To get a picture of how often your HVAC system should be scheduled for maintenance, we’ve put together some important info. Read on!

How Often Should HVAC Maintenance Be Done?

There are two primary seasons when it comes to your HVAC system: heating season and cooling season. The best way to get the best performance from your heating and cooling system is to have it serviced before each season. That way you know it’s ready and primed for the work ahead.

What Happens During HVAC System Maintenance?

There are different checklists for each season. For spring, you want to get your air conditioner ready for summer, and in the fall, you want to be prepped for the cooler months of winter. Here’s some of what maintenance covers for each.

Air conditioner maintenance includes:

  • Clean condenser coil

  • Inspect evaporator coil

  • Insect blower wheels

  • Charge refrigerant

  • Inspect air filters

  • Adjust belts and pulleys

  • Lubricate motors and bearings

  • Test and adjust thermostat

  • Inspect and test safeties and controls

Heating maintenance includes:

  • Examine heat exchanger

  • Inspect air filters

  • Clean burner assembly

  • Check flame sensor operation

  • Check and adjust fan switch

  • Monitor pilot light

  • Inspect blower wheels

  • Check gas lines

  • Test and adjust thermostat

  • Inspect and test safeties and controls

To keep your system running right, it should get TLC from a licensed HVAC technician twice a year. For more information on maintenance agreements and your HVAC system, contact our team of pros at Helms Heating and Air Conditioning today.
