CHARLOTTE - Helms Heating & Air Conditioning has teamed up again this season with the Carolina Panthers, Carrier and the United Way of the Central Carolinas to provide a family in need with a new Carrier heating system. The Panthers and the United Way will work together to identify a family from our community that will receive the new system, which will be installed by Helms Heating & Air Conditioning.

The recipient, Bettye Kanipe, of Charlotte, was selected by Love Inc.  based on referrals from the community.  A recent amputee with excessive medical debt, Bettye is not financially able to repair or replace her current heating and cooling system.  On October 9, 2007, Helms Heating & Air met representatives of Love Inc, Carrier, United Way, and the Charlotte Panthers at the residence of Ms. Kanipe where she received a brand new duct system and high efficiency Carrier equipment.

Launched by Helms Heating & Air in 2004, the Bringing the Heat project has successfully provided comfort to deserving, less fortunate families.

CHARLOTTE - During the week of June 5, 2006, 1,000 professional home builders will help to build more than 400 Habitat for Humanity homes.  The homes will be built from start to finish in 130 communities through-out the United States.  Together as a team, the home building industry is sending a message throughout the country that affordable housing can be a reality. 

In North Carolina alone, 63 homes will be built during the Blitz.  The builders and their associations are challenged to fully accomplish the building of a home in five days, working with their subcontractors and suppliers to deliver these houses at no cost to the Habitat affiliate. 

Helms Heating & Air Conditioning is supporting Lennar Carolinas and KB Homes of Charlotte in their projects for Habitat by donating the material and labor for the heating and air conditioning systems.   We are excited to be part of such a worthy cause.

WASHINGTON, DC - To increase the energy efficiency of residential air conditioners, the US Department of Energy (DOE) has issued new manufacturing standards that go into effect today, January 23, 2006, for products manufactured in, or imported into, the United States.

"Homeowners who choose to buy more energy-efficient air conditioning systems after today will realize significant savings in their energy bills and greatly reduce their energy use," said Secretary of Energy Samuel W. Bodman.  "These new energy efficiency standards are the first of several standards to be issued this year by the Department of Energy that will improve the energy efficiency of several common household appliances."

The 13 SEER central air conditioner standard is predicted to save the nation 4.2 quads (quadrillion British Thermal Units) of energy over the next 25 years.  This is equivalent to the energy consumed by nearly 26 million American households annually.  The standard is expected to save consumers $1 billion over the same period.

Today's standards pertain specifically to newly-manufactured air conditioning units.  Homeowners with current central air conditioning units will not have to replace their systems as a result of this standard.  The average lifespan of a central air conditioner is about 15 to 20 years, and replacement parts and services will still be available for home systems for many years to come.

Residential air conditioner systems (not window box air conditioners), manufactured after today must achieve a Seasonal Energy Efficient Ratio (SEER) of 13 or higher.  A SEER rating of 13 is 30 percent more efficient than the current 10 SEER standard.  Equipment with a rating less than 13 SEER manufactured before today may still be sold and installed, and homeowners and builders can still buy 10 SEER residential air conditioners until the supply is exhausted.

Helms Heating & Air Conditioning, partnered with both the Carolina Panthers and the United Way of Central Carolinas to identify a family in need of a heating and air conditioning unit.  The Panthers telephoned United Way, who then turned to member agency Love Inc. to identify the family based on referrals from the community.  On Tuesday, September 21, 2004 at 10:00am, representatives met Sir Purr at 1509 Parkwood Avenue in Charlotte where Randolph and Katie Moorehead received a brand new high efficiency heating and cooling system that was provided and installed by Helms Heating & Air Conditioning.  The Moorehead Family also received a new television and refrigerator from Helms Heating & Air Conditioning.
